Facebook Conman Charged for Scamming Kareem King
Twenty-eight-year-old Jason Thomas Perez was brought before the lower court earlier today on a charge of obtaining property by deception. It is alleged that back in January, the printer and laborer conned Kareem King out of two hundred and seventy dollars. King reported to police that on January fourteenth, he received a call from someone pretending to be his friend, Kenrick Graham, via Facebook Messenger informing him that he was in San Pedro and ran short on finance. According to King, the caller requested financial assistance in the sum of two hundred dollars to be deposited in an Atlantic Bank account and then seventy dollars to a Belize Bank account. King later learned that it was a scam being perpetrated by Perez. This afternoon, Perez appeared unrepresented before Senior Magistrate Baja Shoman where he was read a single count. He was offered bail in the sum of one thousand dollars, plus one surety of the same amount which he was able to meet. He is scheduled to return to court on August 28th, 2023.
