Barbados and OECS move closer
The islands belonging to the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States have been conducting discussions with their larger neighbour to the East, Barbados, on ways to foster greater cooperation and perhaps even some sort of Union. The CBC’s Peter Thorne hit the streets of Castrees to see how St. Lucians feel about the idea.

St. Lucians have been full of praise for an iniative noted last week by their Prime Minister Dr. Kenny Anthony and Barbadian Prime Minister Earl Arthorne to form a political union. The two leaders agreed that the twenty-ninth meeting of the Heads of government of the O.E.C.S. that for small island states to survive in the twenty first century some form of a union must be established.
The issue is now in front of a joint task force that will determine the best mechanism to achieve political union between Barbados and the O.E.C.S. Peter Thorne for CBC News.
