Canon Leroy Flowers Dies at Age 74

Canon Flowers

Canon Leroy Flowers, who has led Saint Mary’s Parish for more than four decades, has passed away. The well-known religious leader had been battling a form of bone cancer for over a year, but over the past month, developed an infection that he never recovered from. Late this evening the Ministry of Religious Affairs issued a press release, expressing sympathy to his family, Bishop Phillip Wright, and the Anglican Church on the death of Canon Flowers. The release states, “Canon Leroy Flowers has left an indelible mark on the lives of countless individuals. He guided his people with wisdom, compassion, and unwavering faith. His commitments to his beliefs and his dedication to service of others have been sources of strength to so many. He will be remembered by those who were fortunate enough to have known him personally or have been touched by his work,”. Today, News Five spoke with Edgar Flowers, the late canon’s son, about his last days.

“He was up until a month ago. He was still managing to move on his own. He came back from his doctor in Merida and he was physically fine. He was able to move on his own. Somehow he caught some type of infection, and when we found out about it, I think he was starting to deteriorate from then. We took him to the hospital and for some reason, they could not get him stable enough for him to travel to see his doctor back in Merida. So they tried what they could have, but I guess it was to no avail.”
