Vasquez cops a plea in death of Monique Emmanuel
She died last year from a bullet wound to the head from her boyfriend’s 38 caliber pistol. Today the case against that boyfriend, twenty-six year old Francis Vasquez, reached a conclusion as he pled guilty to the crime of death by careless conduct. Friends of Emmanuel, citing a history of physical abuse at the hands of Vasquez, had pushed for a trial on more serious charges but there was no eyewitness to the crime other than Vasquez, who claimed the gun went off accidentally as the two spoke in their bedroom. Justice George Meerabux will hand down the sentence on Wednesday.
