“For me, it was befuddling” – Shyne on RCG’s Response
And during his weekly sit-down with the media, the Leader of the Opposition also commented on the response he has received from the Royal Caribbean Group. It follows a letter that was written by Barrow to C.E.O. Jason Liberty on June twelfth in which several concerns were raised regarding the Memorandum of Understanding signed between Portico, Boskalis International and Royal Caribbean. Here’s how he responded to the letter written by Vice President Joshua Carroll last Friday.
Shyne Barrow, Leader of the Opposition
“For me, it was befuddling. It completely smacks in the face of reason that all that has been shared about that they would not be doing some type of internal investigation or some type of reconsideration of that partnership. When you look at the proposed port projects, Portico should not even be in the discussion. If indeed, as Royal Caribbean said, they want to solve the tendering problem, I believe they wrote something about having a tender solution. How far is Portico? They haven’t even shoveled, they haven’t even broken ground. I wrote to the Minister of Natural Resources to ask him, has his ministry given permit for the seabed which is essential to that Port Magical development, and he said, absolutely not. So again, Port Magical is such a question mark, mired in controversy, allegations of corruption. From its birth, a former minister signing a Definitive Agreement before the EIA was granted and the EIA is a requisite for the cabinet investment subcommittee to have granted the Definitive Agreement.”
