Shyne Barrow Says Mayor Trapp will Run for Office Once Again

Shyne Barrow

The United Democratic Party is preparing for the upcoming municipal elections, but as it stands only has two of sixty-seven seats in local government.  Those seats are held by Mayor Earl Trapp and Councilor Bernadette Fernandez of the San Ignacio Town Council.  But is there an internal effort among members of the U.D.P. to prevent Mayor Trapp from running for office once again?  That’s what Party Leader Shyne Barrow was asked recently.

“Will Mayor Trapp be the mayoral candidate for the U.D.P. in San Ignacio?”

Shyne Barrow, Leader of the Opposition

“Unlike Mayor Wagner, who is still pandering, pleading, begging his party to give him the respect he deserves as a two-time mayor and be endorsed, I am happy to say to you that Mayor Trapp and Bernadette Fernandez were endorsed by the NPC on Saturday past in an almost unanimous vote.  I believe it was seventy to six.  So that’s not a problem for us, regardless of what you’ve heard.  The entire party came together and they’ve endorsed the mayor and Ms. Fernandez who are lions of the UDP in Cayo.”

Reporter

“Okay then, what is the national state of play in terms of sixty-seven municipal seats.  The UDP currently has two.  Can it make a prediction as to how many you expect the UDP to have at the end of the elections?”

Shyne Barrow

“We will have at least five, five municipal bodies.”

Reporter

“I assume you are not counting Belize City but…

Shyne Barrow

“At least five.”
