Anthony Sylvestre is New Attorney General
A new attorney general is set to take office on July first, replacing Magali Marin-Young as the country’s chief legal officer. Earlier today, the Government of Belize issued a release announcing that attorney Anthony Sylvestre has been nominated to take up the post. Under the Briceño administration, Sylvestre has held several positions on committees and boards. He is also the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the University of Belize. Sylvestre holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of the West Indies, as well as a certificate in Legal Education from the Norman Manley Law School in Jamaica. He has served on the Belize Advisory Council on the Guatemalan Claim, as well as the Income and Business Tax Appeals Board. In the statement issued by government, Prime Minister John Briceño thanked Senior Counsel Magali Marin-Young for the two years of service given as Attorney General.
