Summer School Season Kicks Off
Growing the Future Projects is back with another summer of learning activities for children this summer. The annual program took a hiatus for several years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But it’s back and kids are being encouraged to come out with their parents this weekend to sign up for the classes.
Peter Lacey, Director, Growing the Future Projects
“This is the sixteenth year, but, you know, this is the first year coming back from COVID. On our flier, we have titled it, we are back and we are moving full steam ahead into our sixteenth program. We‘ve been in operation since 2004 and we are moving forward with the new curriculum that is being implemented by the Ministry of Education which is more focused on competency. But we are taking it a step further in terms of taking some of those learning outcomes and we are using it in project based learning. So whatever is being covered at the summer program, students can relate to it in real-life situations with the projects that they will be involved with at the program.”

“Give us some details insofar as when the program gets off the ground, where, signing up and all of those other relevant pieces.”

“Okay, so the summer program is starting on July tenth to the twenty-eighth. However, registration has begun today, June twenty-ninth at San Ignacio at St. Andrew’s Anglican School from nine a.m. to five p.m., and then tomorrow at Belize City at ITVET, from nine a.m. to five p.m. So students and parents can come over to ITVET for registration. There has been a slight change, as you know, there is a STEAM academy and also refurbishment that is being done at ITVET. So we are relocating the summer program over to Trinity Methodist School which is just about ten minutes away from ITVET.”
