Taiwaneese Ambassador announces departure
He has been posted to Belize for almost six years and for the last three he has been dean of the diplomatic corps. Today the Embassy of Taiwan announced that Ambassador Shu-Chi Chang would be heading home to Taipei on January 21st. Chang’s tenure in Belize has spanned two different governments. He was instrumental in taking an already cordial relationship with the P.U.P and turning it into a warm–if not downright steamy–embrace with the present UDP administration. As he prepares to depart, Chang leaves Belize with Taiwan as Belize’s single largest source of financial assistance. Loans and grants have been made for balance of payment support, housing, roads and agriculture. The new Ambassador, Kuo-Hsiung Shen, will arrive in Belize on January 22nd. His diplomatic experience has been primarily in Asia.
