Elmer Nah Appears to be Receiving “Velvet Glove” Treatment
The family of the slain victims rallied outside the courtroom this morning in Belmopan. Saldivar says the family is cautiously optimistic that justice will be served. They are, however, concerned about the favorable treatment that Nah appears to be enjoying.
Arthur Saldivar, Legal Advisor for Ramnarace Family
“The family remains cautiously optimistic that due process will be served. They are however worried about the way Mr. Nah has been treated. It seems to them and others that Elmer Nah is receiving favorable treatment. He is being treated with velvet gloves as it were. And, where we have seen others accused of the kinds of offenses that Elmer Nah has been refuted to commit they have been treated with a certain level of consistency as to how they are brought to court. This morning Nah was brought to court in an air-conditioned vehicle sitting very comfortably inside the cab. He is no longer in the estimation of any reasonable thinking person, he is not deserving of that treatment, when other prisoners are brought in the pans of pickup trucks or shackled inside a van. So, the family sees this as favorable treatment being extended to him which causes them to worry about whether or not those in the higher authority of government and the police department may have something to do with the treatment he is receiving.”
