When are Boledo and Sunday Lottery Draw Returning?
It’s been several weeks since the nightly Boledo draw and the Sunday lottery draw have been put on hold. In the interim, the Government of Belize has been losing out on revenue to be collected from the sale of tickets. When we caught up with Prime Minister Briceño on Thursday, he explained that there has been an extension requested for agents to apply in their respective districts.

“Boledo, sir. A lot of revenue is being lost.”
Prime Minister John Briceño
“Yes, but then we’ll get a lot more when it’s launched. As I said, we have to do it well. The former prime minister is looking at every step we take to see if there is, if we’re giving them any chance to be able to sue us. Now if we would have done it hurriedly, you’d be the first one to tell us, “Oh, you mi done cook this up and yoh mi wahn give it to somebody.” Some people are asking us to even extend the time for them to apply and we’ve done that. I think it’s going to close, I think, the fifteenth of July. So we are doing everything possible to do it properly and to ensure that the Belizean people benefit from the Boledo, or the Belizean Boledo Lottery.”

“Do you have a time line for when it will come back?”
John Briceño
“I believe that by, I certainly believe that by the end of next month, in August.”
