Belize’s Tourism Trends Tick Upwards
Belize’s tourism numbers continue to trend upward. Minister of Tourism Anthony Mahler confirmed that January and February saw the highest increase of overnight visitors for the year. He also noted that June was a good month for tourism in Belize. Minister Mahler spoke with us about his projections for the remainder of the year, as the sector continues to rebound.
Anthony Mahler, Minister of Tourism
“We are putting in a lot of work trying to promote these festivals that we are having all across the world. WE are talking to different operators and wholesalers across the world. We don’t want to call it the slow season anymore. I call it the green season rather than the slow season because that has a negative connotation. But, we have strategically marketed Belize for the lower part of the season so that we can taper off that dive we usually see. July started well. We saw June did well and foresee that if no hurricane happens, we foresee that we will have a good summer season.”
