Spawn and Black Dynamite actor attends local film festival

Story PictureThe Belize International Film Festival is still showing at the Bliss. Last week, it was Jamaican actor Paul Campbell who arrived for the festival and this week it’s Michael Jai White, an American actor who is well known for his leading role in the movie Spawn and roles in the Dark Night and Why did I get Married? White arrived at the Philip Goldson International Airport this afternoon and said he is happy to promote his new film Black Dynamite.

Michael Jai White, Actor
“Well, I’m coming down here for the film festival and I have a film playing in the festival called Black Dynamite.”

Jose Sanchez
“What’s Black Dynamite about?”

Michael Jai White
“Black Dynamite is about a seventies action star. It’s kind of like a lost movie that’s been brought back but that’s kind of the inside joke of it because it’s a new movie that we shot like about a year and it’s got a lot of contemporary actors but it’s an action comedy and it’s a lot of fun.”

Jose Sanchez
“Something like Shaft.”

Michael Jai White
“Yeah, a lot like Shaft and all those movies from back in that time.”

Jose Sanchez
“But for the people who don’t know your current work; the other movies that you’re well known for, can you share with us?”

Michael Jai White
“Sometimes it’ hard for me to remember cause I put it in the past but mainly people remember Spawn, Universal Soldier, Exit Wounds, Why did I Get Married? And the Mike Tyson Story as well.”

Jose Sanchez
“How did you learn about the film festival in Belize?”

Michael Jai White
“Well, I was contacted and my manager told me about it and it’s like what I intend on doing now that I’m producing and writing and directing and starting my own company called Goliath Entertainment, I’m putting movies out all over the world and really uplifting African American and minority type films and making them profitable all over. So it was very important to me to travel and meet other people and really provide something, not only for the US audience, for the global audience. So that’s one of the reasons I’m here. I’ve never been in Belize so I looked forward to coming here.”

The Hollywood actor will be a special guest on our breakfast Open Your Eyes this Thursday morning and his movie will be premiering on Friday night at the Bliss.
