Opposition Supports BTV’s Sarstoon Security Demands
The Leader of the Opposition also weighed in on the Belize Territorial Volunteer’s call for greater security presence at the Sarstoon Forward Operating Base in the Toledo District. Barrow says he has been following the reports, but is yet to engage members of the BTV on the matter. He, however, noted that he joins their call for greater security presence at the base in the interest of border security and integrity.
Moses “Shyne” Barrow, Leader of the Opposition
“On the surface what you relate as to what the BTV is saying sounds legit. I will make it my responsibility to reach out to the leadership of the BTV to get their position clearly. I have seen the news items. I would like to have a conversation with the leadership, but certainly on the surface, it is a cause for alarm that the forward operating base that we just went to the House of Representatives in a supplementary appropriations bill to a lot more money than we did two months ago in the almost two billion budget for the operating base. So what is being done? Why are we not protecting our territory? These are serious questions and I will certainly speak to the leadership of the BTV to get a clearer understanding. But on the surface, certainly the opposition would be inclined to associate them with the demand that our territory is protected from any exposure and that it be addressed immediately.”
