The Findings of the April 2023 Labour Force Survey
The initial presentation made today was on a labour force survey conducted in April of this year. The data collected from the biannual household survey showed that seventy-five point three percent of the estimated population were of working age, while twenty-four point seven percent were under the age of fourteen. It goes on to reveal that there is a higher rate of men employed than women. Statistician Curwen Arthurs shared additional details on the findings.

“In April 2023, there are about one hundred ninety thousand and thirty-seven persons or ninety-seven point two percent who were employed and about five thousand five hundred and fifty-nine persons or two point eight percent who were unemployed. Of all employed persons, about twelve thousand four hundred and forty-one or six point five percent were underemployed. Breaking down the labour force further by other characteristics, we see that of the one hundred and ninety-five thousand five hundred and ninety-six persons that were either employed or unemployed, the country’s labour supply was mainly from rural areas with about ninety-nine thousand two hundred and forty-one persons or fifty point seven percent coming from rural areas and this population was mostly made up of males with about one hundred and seventeen thousand five hundred and ninety-two persons or sixty point one percent being males. Fifty-eight point five percent of working-aged persons were economically active – either being employed or unemployed. Males continue to participate at higher rates than females at seven point six percent compared to forty-five point eight percent. Looking at the age groups, adults participated at higher rates than youths at sixty-four point five percent compared to forty-two point six percent. The highest rate of participation across the groups was that of adult males at seventy-nine point eight percent and the lowest was female youths at thirty-four point three percent.”
