Wagner Steadfast on Wanting Endorsement for Third Bid as Mayor

Bernard Wagner

And Wagner says he would like to run a third time as mayor for the Belize City Council in next year’s municipals, but that might come with a condition that he does not want to face. Wagner has maintained that he will only run a third time for the post of mayor if he does not face a contender and is endorsed. But there has not been any word forthcoming from the P.U.P. leadership on whether Wagner will be endorsed, or if he will have contenders running for the post at a convention. On Thursday, Wagner told News Five that he remains steadfast on that position.

Bernard Wagner, Mayor, Belize City

“I got projects in the pipeline that I want. I have indicated it to my party again. I’m very excited that municipal elections are coming. I’m willing to go for the next three years to see those projects through. I have my electric buses were right on the brink of being put together for building the ecosystem of immobility in the city. I’m working very closely with U.N.D.P and the E.U. We have so many infrastructural works building this smart city that I talk about every day, of building the type of parking facilities all across the city, of going green, developing urban gardens, ensuring that would become wa type a society weh wi nuh di use a lot of cash. My parking facility at the NICH parking lot will be a totally smart parking facility, mechanized and so this da the type of projects that I still have in the pipeline along with the infrastructure. Those will come. We are now just getting back to infrastructure because two years were spent in COVID. So now you are seeing the type of work which could have happened from we get in, right, but we couldn’t get it done due to those setbacks. And I need to see those through, but, I am not willing to seek – go through any sort of convention. Now that is my – if the party says, Mayor, well we want to go to convention, then thank you, Sir, thank you, thank you.”
