Shocking Twist in Outcome of Murder Trial
There was a shocking twist at the end of a murder trial in the High Court earlier today. It’s an unusual outcome, but an accomplice who served as a lookout in the shooting death of businessman Jose Hilario Diaz has been convicted of murder. The alleged gunman, on the other hand, was found not guilty and acquitted of the charge. In July 2019, Emmerson Garnett and Leroy Haulze were charged jointly for the execution-style murder of Diaz inside his place of business at the corner of Euphrates Avenue and Cemetery Road. In the courtroom of Justice Nigel Pilgrim, the Crown relied on surveillance footage, as well as the testimonies of several police officers in an attempt to prove joint enterprise. While a sergeant of police identified Garnett as the shooter, Haulze was allegedly the lookout. Surveillance footage showed a pair of men, one in a red shirt was believed to be Garnett, while another in grey was believed to be Haulze. The video shows Haulze standing across from the scene of the murder and making contact with Garnett, the alleged gunman. But Justice Pilgrim was not convinced, as the video that was entered into evidence showed Haulze enough to link him to the crime. Conversely, the shooter’s identity remained questionable throughout the trial. The trial of the accused men began on May third in a trial by judge without jury. Garnett and Haulze were represented by attorney Leeroy Banner. Sentencing for Haulze has been set for September twenty-fifth, 2023.
