Woman plunges into 40 foot well but survives
Earlier in the newscast we reported on a female found dead, but there is some good news coming from Orange Walk today. A woman luckily is safe and sound after a terrible experience this morning when she slipped and plunged forty feet into a well in the Trial Farm area while she was reportedly trying to attach a rope at the top of the well. Except for the fright, twenty-six year old Eveleidi Mendez fortunately did not suffer any broken bones or injuries. But many who were present to help rescue Mendez believe that aside from her good luck, her fate relied on the depth of the water inside the well—four feet. That was just the right amount to slow down her free fall and at the same time not deep enough for her to drown. Mendez was pulled out by Fire officials who lowered a ladder inside the well. She was transported to the Northern Regional Hospital and this afternoon we learned that she was “well” enough to walk through the door.
