Agriculture Minister: B.S.I. Commission of Inquiry Still Pending

While with Minister of Agriculture Jose Abelardo Mai, the media asked about the interim agreement between A.S.R./B.S.I. and Belize Sugar Cane Farmers Association. That’s coming to an end, will a new commercial agreement be struck. Minister Mai says no, explaining that a commission of inquiry is still pending.

“We are supposed to meet with B.S.C.F.A. either tomorrow or day after to restart the process for the commission of inquiry. As you will recall cabinet approved that at the commission of inquiry be carried out and so we need to work on that. It was delayed before because we had the Fairtrade problem and then we had the import regulation problem and so one thing lead to another, But cabinet position stands that we must continue, carry on and prepare for the commission of inquiry, which we will do.”
