B.C.C.I. Wants to Know About Government’s Plan on Electricity Alternatives
There is no shortage of letters from the Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry. They’ve also written to Minister Michel Chebat, who holds the portfolio for electricity, seeking government’s plans for the inclusion of alternative energy as part of Belize’s national grid. The Chamber wrote in part, “Understanding the urgent need to transition towards renewable and sustainable energy sources, the B.C.C.I would appreciate being updated on the status of the policy to support this. It is imperative that as a priority a sufficient, reliable power supply, and to the extent that it is possible, it is preferred that this power in-country renewable sources. Solar energy represents a promising avenue for reducing our reliance on Fossil fuels and C.F.E. The B.C.C.I is also putting forward the need to take into consideration non-intermittent sources as well, such as those from biomass, given its proven reliability”.
