Man Shot on Ordonez Avenue; Discharges Himself from K.H.M.H.

A man was shot late on Sunday night in the Lake Independence area in Belize City. The victim, twenty-three-year-old Jordan Waight, who also goes by the name Jordan Burns, was reportedly walking on Ordonez Avenue sometime around eleven p.m., when a gunman shot him in the foot. The attacker then fled. It is not known if the shooting is linked to any previous incident, but in 2019, Burns, was charged with the murder of thirty-four-year old Carlton Moreira. Moreira was gunned down on May twenty-third 2018, in the Mayflower area, also known as Ghost Town. Today, Head of the Belize Police Department’s Eastern Division, Assistant Commissioner Hilberto Romero, confirmed with reporters that Waight is someone who is known to the police and that he says he doesn’t know who shot him.

“On Sunday, 23rd of July 2023, police responded to a shooting incident at Complex Avenue. Upon the arrival, they found Jordan Waight, 23 years with a gunshot injury to the foot. He was taken to the K.H.M.H, where he was treated, and he was – he self-discharged himself this morning.”

“No, he’s not telling us that he saw who did the shooting. He was walking on Complex Avenue and he’s heard shots and he received one gunshot injury. This is somebody that is known to us from that area.”
