Food burglar gets meager six years

But forty-one year old Edwin Davis, a city resident, presently serving a one year jail term for theft, will extend his time behind bars by an additional six years. That’s because Davis changed his plea to guilty today before the Chief Magistrate, Margaret Gabb-McKenzie. Davis was convicted for entering the home of Dorla Humes on Ebony Street in May of this year and stealing groceries, household items and food. Humes was not at home when it was burglarized. Her neighbor, a Nigerian national, set chase behind Davis and was joined by police who caught up with him on Central American Boulevard. He was detained with a knapsack in his possession that contained the stolen items. Davis begged the Chief Magistrate for mercy saying that he was on drugs and in rehabilitation at the Kolbe Foundation. But he was reminded by the Chief Magistrate that he has five previous convictions for dishonestly, and was given six years behind bars.
