“Shutter Speed” highlights 5 years of Audubon’s work

Story PictureIn news of an environmental nature, this year the Belize Audubon Society is celebrating forty years of its active presence in Belize. There are many events planned in the months ahead by the N.G.O. to celebrate this milestone as the leading agency in promoting the sustainable use of natural resources. And this evening, the Mexican Cultural Institute is hosting the launching of the Audubon’s photo exhibit called Shutter Speed. Publicity coordinator and in-house photographer for the Audubon, Dirk Francisco, explained that the photographs highlight some of Audubon’s work over the past few years.

Dirk Francisco, Publicity Coordinator, Belize Audubon Society
“None of the photos are posed… the reason we entitle the exhibit Shutter Speed. Shutter Speed is capturing the moment and there the right place at the right time and we just captured the moment to show to Belizeans the work that we do.”

“What we want to do as a part of our fortieth anniversary is to show Belizeans some of the work that we do. The photos that we presently have exhibited are photos over a period of five years, the past five years. The photographs clearly show what we do every day. These are photos that are captured on the moment; some of land clearing around Belize—within the protected areas that we manage—some photos that involve Belize Audubon engaging in community meetings, presenting to school children and some of just beauty shots of the protected areas that we manage. Today you are seeing them, tomorrow they might not be here again.”

“What do you want the public to get from your exhibit?”

Dirk Francisco
“I just want the Belizean public, first of all, to appreciate nature, enjoy nature, use nature as an inspiration to be proud of being a Belizean and also to look and learn from the work of Belize Audubon society and also to support our work or join with us.”

Shutter Speed has been made possible through the assistance of the Mexican Cultural Institute. It will be on display from February fifth to twelfth. Gallery opening hours are eight a.m. until five pm.
