Do You Own Abandoned Property in Belize City? CitCo Planning to Claim It

If you own property that has been left abandoned or neglected in Belize City, you might want to start showing signs that you’re still interested in the land or the building. That’s because the Belize City Council is looking to legally challenge abandoned properties and repurpose them for some beneficial use to the society. Mayor Bernard Wagner shared with the media that he plans to place legal claims to abandoned properties starting by zones, with a view to putting them to good use for the residents.

“We are looking at how we could identify, we can’t do the whole bunch immediately, but identify a pocket of those, those properties. And then we’ll put them on a list. We’ll take them to the minister. Our first approach would be to really look at repurposing for the use by the entire community. So we look at parks, we look at playgrounds, we look at parking facilities, and so we are quickly identifying about 10 to 20 of those, those lots, where we will then submit to the minister for a declaration for repurposing.”
