Cops say additional investigation led to murder charge

Story PictureTwo months after the heinous crime, two residents of the same village: twenty year old Nelson Gibson and twenty-six year old Sherman Anderson, believed to have been monitoring the family, were arrested and charged with Robbery. Gibson was also charged for Murder, Attempted Murder, Use of Deadly Means of Harm and Wounding on April twenty-eighth, 2008. Today, twenty months later, Anderson was additionally charged with Mirna’s murder. But why did it take this long to charge Anderson? Officer in Charge of Belmopan Police, Superintendent Aaron Guzman, says that after further investigation and advice from the D.P.P., the murder charge was levied.

“This is in reference to a report made by Miss Sanabria on the twenty-seventh February 08. It was concerning the death of her daughter, Mirna Sanabria, which had occurred in Cotton Tree Village where there was a robbery and the young lady was shot and killed. Last year Belmopan police had arrested a fellow, Nelson Gibson, and further to that investigation, Mister Sherman Anderson also of Cotton Tree Village has now been charged jointly with Mister Gibson for the crime of murder.”

“Why did it take so long for him to be apprehended and charged?”

“Well, initially, the charge of Robbery was preferred on Mister Anderson. Mister Gibson also is charged with Robbery. However, Mister Gibson was charged with Murder. It is now based on further investigation and after advice from the Director of Public Prosecution that the charge of murder has also been preferred also against Mister Anderson.”

“Last year it was mentioned that there were three persons, three assailants, this is only two…where is the third person?”

Anderson now joins Gibson behind bars at the Hattieville Prison awaiting trial in the Supreme Court for Murder.
