An AK-47 is Retrieved in Xaibe Village
Over the past few weeks, several armed attacks in the Corozal District, including the murder of Kurtis Usher in Libertad Village, were committed with high-powered rifles carrying seven-point-two-six rounds. Just recently the near-fatal shooting of Nimrod Tillett in Corozal Town was believed to have been carried out using one such weapon. On Wednesday afternoon, in Xaibe Village, Corozal police retrieved an AK- forty-seven assault rifle, as well as seventeen rounds of ammunition from a farm in that community. The items were sealed, labeled and deposited as found property. The Belize Police Department believes that these deadly weapons are being smuggled in from neighboring Mexico.
