Western Highway accident leaves one seriously injured
A second traffic accident for this week occurred on the Western Highway between miles seventy-four and seventy-five, but it was not fatal. On Tuesday night, police visited the scene where two taxis; a Toyota car and a Ford Escort car overturned; both extensively damaged. The driver of the Toyota taxi, forty-four year old Victor Manuel Baños, reported that around eight forty-five last night, he was travelling to the Western Border accompanied by twenty year old Darwin Martinez. Before reaching their destination, another taxi coming from the opposite direction suddenly swerved into his lane. When he tried to avoid colliding, Baños lost control of the vehicle that overturned, ending up with its wheels in the air. The driver of the other vehicle was taxi-man and fire-fighter, thirty-eight year old Ascuncion Jimenez whose vehicle ran off the road. The three victims were taken to the San Ignacio hospital where Baños and Jimenez received treatment for their injuries and were released, but Jimenez suffered serious head injuries and was transported to the K.H.M.H. where he underwent surgery and is now in serious but stable condition.
