Former P.U.P Minister, Carlos Diaz Passes Away

Carlos Diaz

Former P.U.P minister and Lake Independence Area Representative Carlos Diaz has died. The former minister passed away on Thursday. Diaz was elected to office in the 1989 general elections and was assigned the portfolio for Energy and Communications. As Minister, Diaz opened the newly-built Bel-China bascule bridge in 1993. He retired from politics thereafter, but in 2012, decided to make another bid for office in the same division where he lived. He ran as an independent candidate against the U.D.P.’s Mark King, who was victorious, and the P.U.P.’s Martin Galvez. Diaz opened a portable toilet rental company, which he owned and managed in his retirement. On the occasion of his death, the P.U.P Party Leader, the Party Chairman and the party’s National Executive issued a press release extending their deepest condolences to the Diaz family. The P.U.P. release states in part, “Carlos served his country in the House of Representatives as Area Representative for the Lake Independence division, as well as a Minister of Government in the 1989-93 Price Cabinet. He was an outstanding Belizean, Businessman, entrepreneur and of course, a loyal P.U.P. soldier. The Party thanks Carlos, a true Son of the Belizean soil, for his life of service to the country, Party and people of Belize…”
