Belizeans Attending Jamboree in S. Korea Evacuated Amid Looming Typhoon

And this news coming from South Korea today, Belizeans who are part of the Santa Elena Jaguar Scouts attending the World Scouts Jamboree have been evacuated from the campsite amidst a looming typhoon. The seventeen Belizeans are among tens of thousands of youths who have been moved out of the path of the typhoon, only days after high temperatures left hundreds ill. The storm has put pressure on the event’s organizers who have received complaints from parents, and have seen the withdrawal of two contingents. The Belize team comprises fourteen scouts and three adult leaders. Some of the participants, including the Belizeans, will be taken by bus on Tuesday to areas out of the path of Typhoon Khanun, which is expected to hit South Korea on Thursday. Meanwhile, officials of North Jeolla province, which is hosting the event, have made efforts to improve sanitary conditions including toilets. They have also dispatched water trucks and air conditioners to keep the participants cool.
