U.D.P. to Hold National Convention and Protest March on Sunday

The United Democratic Party has scheduled its national convention for this Sunday, August thirteenth. Several months ago the U.D.P.’s National Party Council voted to endorse its current executive in an upcoming national convention. That is expected to happen at Sunday’s event. But, added to the occasion is a protest march through the streets of Belize City. Michael Peyrefitte, the Chairman of the United Democratic Party, tells us more.

“We are set to have our national convention this Sunday. A few months ago the national party council voted to have the party leader, the first deputy, the second deputy, the chairman and the vice-chairman, the NPC voted for us to be endorsed at the national convention on Sunday in the sense of unity for the party going forward and stability going forward to the next general election. So that is what will happen on Sunday. We expect out party faithful to come out. We are having a demonstration march from the headquarters to the Birds Isle and we will use that opportunity to not just be in a celebratory mood to say look this is the UDP, we are ready and prepared to move forward but at the same time we have a responsibility to enlighten the people as to the problems we are having in the country and so that is what is going to happen on Sunday.”
