U.D.P. Chairman Chides G.O.B. Over Sarstoon F.O.B.

Michael Peyrefitte

The Sarstoon’s Forward Operating Base remains in a deteriorated state. As a result, Belize Defense Force soldiers are not able to maintain a permanent presence at the base.  So, what is delaying the repairs at the base? Former Minister of National Security, Michael Peyrefitte says the government should have moved to fix the base a long time ago.

Michael Peyrefitte, Chairman, United Democratic Party

“I am surprised because the Prime Minister I think in the news last night boasted that the reason we are so short on fuel or energy to provide electricity is because the economy is expanding so much and growing so fast. If it is expanding so much and growing so fast then you should have no difficulty in providing money to build the forward operating base. I have been to the forward operating base on the Sarstoon. It is a very critical base for Belize where you can literally see the Guatemalan side, the can literally they can literally see the Belizean side with the Sarstoon Island just off the right, if you are looking from the Belize FOB. It is a critical post and if it was in a state of disrepair when noticed by this government they should have moved to fix it.”
