Businessman swindled out of thousands of dollars
Police are looking for the man with sticky fingers who has left a Belize City businessman short of thousands of dollars. Murli Mahitani, owner of Delta Store, reported to police that when he investigated a long outstanding bill owed by Honey Supermarket on the Lord’s Bank Road, he was told that an employee had already cashed in. That employee was identified as Lionel Jones and according to Mahitani, the three thousand two hundred and ninety-six dollars never reached the business. Mahitani was shown documents signed by Jones for the receipt of an assortment of liquor, purportedly authorized by Delta Store. But the businessman claims he never approved the transaction. That’s not the end of Mahitani’s woes; another invoice for eight hundred and twenty-nine dollars was reportedly collected by a woman named Silvia Staine. The only problem is… Staine is not an employee of Mahitani’s and was not authorized to collect the money.
