Is U.D.P. United for Endorsement Convention?
The United Democratic Party is holding an endorsement convention this weekend in Belize City. That national event promises to be massive and will be captured as part of Barrow’s upcoming bio doc. Beyond the cameras and the punchy sound bites, has Barrow truly mended the deep fracture that has divided the U.D.P.?
Shyne Barrow, Leader of the Opposition
“Well the party is united in its purpose to form the next Government of Belize. The party continues to evolve and continues to grow stronger in our sense of urgency that no personal interest trumps the interest of the Belizean people and as the opposition with the desire to form the next government. The desire to form the next government is not for the sake of self, it’s for the sake of all of the tens of thousands of people, hundreds of thousands of people in this country that rely on the government to improve their quality of life. And if you ask the majority of Belizeans over the last three years whether their quality of life has improved, whether things have gotten better, the resounding response will be no. So the UDP is bound together by, again, this sense of urgent purpose and destiny to form the next government. Nothing is more important than that. So we have resolved to put whatever grievances, whatever differences aside and focus on our service to the nation. So we have been busy working, busy in our constituencies, busy attacking government for their many failures, busy coming up with solutions. So that is what has happened since we had the last decision by the NPC that my leadership will be endorsed, along with the leadership executive.”
