NEAB Breaks Silence on Sexual Assault Allegations, One Week Later…

The National Evangelical Association of Belize has broken its silence on the mounting sexual abuse allegations that several women have brought against Mervin Budram, a worship leader from one of its affiliated churches. Today, NEAB issued a press release, one week after the allegations surfaced. It reads, “NEAB is appalled to hear the accounts of sexual abuse that have been brought to light in this past week. The awareness coming to the national discourse is desperately needed and has the power to bring forth proactive change… The NEAB stands firmly against sexual abuse in all its forms and we stand with the victims and commend those who came forward”. NEAB also commended Jubilee Ministries for the manner in which its leaders handled the situation. They say the ministry acted, “swiftly, thoroughly… followed the proper protocols…in line with biblical and ethical standards.”. According to NEAB, the Child Development Foundation has been partnering with those in ministry to fulfill the church’s obligation to at risk-persons and children. They also urged more churches and leaders to get proper training from groups like CDF. Today, Commissioner of Police Chester William was asked if there has been any development in the case. Here is what he said.

“I will not provide any details. I know that we have sent the files to the DPP office and are awaiting advice on that matter.”

Reporter

“So, you do have virtual complainants?”

Chester Williams

“Yes, I think the police got some statements from some people and we are awaiting advice from the DPP.”

Reporter

“To clarify, there is no statutory limit.”

Chester Williams

“No, no. if you all will remember recently, we recently arrested Ambassador Rosado for a matter which took place many years ago. So it is basically if the DPP believes that there is sufficient there that warrants prosecution.”
