Cabinet to Decide Actions Going Forward following Sugar Ruling
Will G.O.B. appeal the decision of the High Court or will the law be amended? The decision will be up to cabinet to determine the way forward. Attorney General Anthony Sylvester says that it will be discussed at the next cabinet meeting.
Anthony Sylvester, Attorney General
“Cabinet will have to look at and would have to consider and see how best we could craft the way forward that would ensure that the industry, the sustainability of the industry – which is the primary focus of the government. Government’s focus at all time is to ensure that industry remain buoyant that they are able to be sustainable. So we will have to be considering that. Cabinet will be considering and excising on the way forward. There is always the option of appealing and so those are matters that would have to be considered and taken onboard and see where we go forward.”
Duane Moody
“Do you know when a decision will be made?”
Anthony Sylvester
“…in terms of?”
Duane Moody
“…of the way forward? If an amendment will be made to the legislation?”
Anthony Sylvester
“And it is a fair question. The public certainly has interest with respect to the matter. But it is a matter which will be taken on by cabinet. The cabinet meets on Tuesday, so at the time the decision came out this week, cabinet wouldn’t have considered it. So at the next cabinet meeting, I am sure it will be considered. So we will be able to give you a better response in terms of the way forward.”
