Barrow’s Comments Are “Disrespectful and Disgraceful” Says PM
Inside the House, Prime Minister John Briceño announced that he has asked the Chairman of the Constitution and Foreign Affairs Committee to convene a meeting to discuss the response of the opposition. We spoke with Prime Minister Briceño outside of the House where he told us that he interpreted the comments as extremely disrespectful and distasteful. He also shared his views on the motion being denied.
Prime Minister John Briceño
“That is extremely disrespectful. i called the constitutional, privileges committee to meet and discuss such gross disrespect. That has never happened in the history of Belize. He likes to point out about we having a vote of no confidence. Well he could have cut and paste and use the same formula. At anytime we did not call any name and cast any aspersions the way the Leader of the Opposition did and has done. So it is disgraceful and shameful and the Leader of the Opposition would.”
Paul Lopez
“How do you dissect the allegation that the speaker of the House is somewhat attempting to protect you and your government by striking down this no confident motion.”
Prime Minister John Briceño
“Sorry to open with this, but that is stupid argument and I say that simply because like I said to you all last week Friday, look at the numbers. There are three of them in there. We are twenty four, there is actually no way this could pass so it is nothing about protecting, it is about following due process.”
