Brothers Claim Wrongful Detention in Caye Caulker Brawl

Gerson Guerra

A Caye Caulker resident who claims to have been badly beaten by a group of friends he was socializing with is tonight seeking justice for himself and his brother. Eber Guerra says he has been charged with common assault, while his sibling Gerson Guerra, has been charged with grievous harm, following a brawl on Friday night in Caye Caulker. Eber claims that he was socializing with a group of men when an argument ensued. He says the men began beating on him and when his brother, Gerson Guerra saw what was happening, Gerson came to his defense. But according to Eber, both he and his brother were detained since Friday and they both have been charged, while their attackers have been left to roam free of charges. Gerson appeared before the Belize City Magistrates Court this morning where he pled not guilty to the charge of grievous assault upon Abimael Riverol. The Senior Magistrate offered him bail in the sum of two thousand dollars with several conditions. Eber Guerra is yet to be arraigned in the San Pedro Magistrate’s Court on a charge of common assault upon, Hector Riverol, the son of Abimael Riverol.
