The Investigation Involves the B.D.F. and the Police

Ricardo Leal

Leal says the investigation is in its preliminary stage and involves the police, as well as their own internal inquiry. And it is not certain whether the weapon went missing during a special operation over the past week or before that. The weapon, according to Leal, was not loaded, since the ammunitions are kept in separate locations as the weapons.

Lt. Col. Ricardo Leal, Chief of Staff, B.D.F.

“These guys are doing operational security, meaning that they are working standby, so whenever a unit is called upon, they normally have the weapons secured in the event that they would need to deploy, then they can easily access it and they can deploy. I know that whenever we have a weapon secured, it’s never next to ammunition. We’d have the ammunition secured in one location and the weapons secured in another location. We have teams on the ground and we are working in collaboration with the police department to find out what transpired.”

“Is there any evidence of whether the lock was broken?”

Lt. Col. Ricardo Leal

“The investigation is ongoing and we are not sure at the moment.”

Marion Ali

“Do you have like surveillance, and I’m not trying to get into your security features, but is there anything to pick up that this was the person who entered the building or broke the lock or whatever the case may be?”

Lt. Col. Ricardo Leal

“Okay, that is a security matter, so I won’t relate to that.”
