Trial Date Set for Ronlee Petillo, Accused of Rape & Aggravated Assault

Today, Ronlee Petillo appeared unrepresented in Courtroom Number One where he urged the judge to grant him an adjournment for two cases. He has been on remand for a charge of aggravated assault with a firearm upon a woman and for a charge of rape.  According to Petillo, he was in the hole at the Belize Central Prison for the last three weeks and was unable to contact any of his relatives or an attorney. Today, his trial for aggravated assault was to start and the alleged rape case was set for preliminary inquiry. Petillo’s request for a one-month adjournment was granted by the Chief Magistrate who expressed to Petillo that while she is mindful to grant him an adjournment, on his next court date, his matter will go to trial and the PI will start. That date is set for September twenty-sixth, 2023. Petillo was further remanded to the Belize Central Prison.
