LOO Calls Out Various Women’s Groups Amid Sex Scandal

The Leader of the Opposition, while on record, also publicized the so-called double standard at play.  Barrow challenged the NGO community, as well as the various feminist groups, to come forward and denounce the appalling claims made against Andre Perez.  Interestingly, Barrow made reference to the proposed Eleventh Amendment and the moral and ethical bar it aims to set.

“I believe that the outrage should be overwhelming from everyone, from the Belize Network of NGOs, from the P.U.P. women parliamentarians, from the P.U.P. Women’s Group, from Senator Chanona, from the Speaker.  I hope the Speaker is going to send Mr. Perez to the Privileges Committee because when they were trying to weaponize the Eleventh Amendment and say that they needed a certain caliber in the House of Representatives, I would surmise that from all that we have read, Mr. Perez falls woefully short.  But the point is, that is why hypocrisy is not good.  That is why politicization is not good when we are dealing with these real-life matters of guilt and innocence and code of ethics because, again, todeh fi me, tomorrow fi you.  And so, now that it is the PUP’s turn to deal with code of ethics, to deal with criminal allegations, with allegations of corruption, allegations of misuse of your office, abuse of your office, ministerial misconduct, they fall woefully short.  The prime minister knew about these allegations months ago and they did nothing, similar to Portico.  He knew that the Portico definitive agreement was corrupt and he did nothing, said nothing and tried to pass it in the House of Representatives.  And I opine that if the graphic images and text messages and statements were not leaked to the media that the prime minister would have done nothing, would have said nothing.”
