Weather System Over Region Causing Heavy Rains Over Belize
The country saw a weather system dumping heavy rains over most areas over the past twenty-four hours. It was caused by a broad area of low pressure that’s crossing over the region and is expected to continue for the next day, with conditions gradually improving. Chief Meteorologist Ronald Gordon explains.

“The current weather situation is that we’re being affected by a broad area of low pressure. It’s something sometimes we refer to as the Central American gyre at this time of the year – a broad circulation around Central America and that, coupled with favorable conditions at the air levels, you have winds that are supporting thunderstorm development and that has been affecting us for the past, I would say, 24 hours or so, and we expect it to continue. However, rainfalls for tomorrow and the Friday should be decreasing a bit, but we’ll still get a few showers affecting the country.”
Anyone who might live in flood-prone areas is advised to be alert and to contact the Hydrology Department for information about the possibility of flooding in your area.
