B.C.C.I. and BCA Request Delay on Price Control List Regulations

The Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Belize Chinese Association are now requesting that the government delays its roll out of the new price control list. According to Blake, this agreement was reached between the two parties during their meeting on Wednesday. On the other hand, Blake is advising his members to be mindful that the list has already been passed into law and as a result they must be adhered to.

“Out of our conversation yesterday it was agreed that we will be looking at a request from the government to see how best we could have this delay somewhat, not a long but a short delay in order for us to get some of the questions and answers in regards to process and documentation then we will be able to communicate that back to our members. But, in the absence of that we welcome the controller of supplies to be able to address our members and provide us with the guidelines in terms of what to expect with the roll out not only with the S.I. eighty-seven but also eighty-eight. It is important to understand and appreciate how that will be handled and what members can expect when an officer shows up at their establishment. We will continue to provide information to our membership. At the end of the day these S.I.s were passed already and so as far as we view them they need to be kept. We will continue to ensure that our members are prepared with the information we have available to us to be able to ensure their businesses are minimally impacted, bearing in mind that not having a clear understanding of all the processes, it is incumbent on out members to be able to provide information to those officers on a timely manner.”
