“I would ban all guns in this country”, PM John Briceño

Prime Minister John Briceño

Prime Minister John Briceño was also asked if the Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams, will be investigated after it was revealed that Ricardo Borja possessed ten gun licenses. PM Briceño said he has to first look into the report. He did, however, take a hard stance against the possession of firearms in Belize.

Prime Minister John Briceño

“First time I am hearing this so it is something I have to take a look into.”

Reporter

“Have you ever asked the ComPol to facilitate someone else with a gun license?”

Prime Minister John Briceño

“No. By the way to make it clear I do not support guns in this country, I do not own a gun and if it was left to me, and I got into trouble with some members of Cabinet, I would ban all guns in this country. But that is how I feel. My members in Cabinet feel differently, but I would ban guns in Belize. Look at what has happened over the years. This fallacy that by giving people guns to protect themselves is not working, because what do they do? The criminals go, hold you up thief your gun and use it to commit crime, so I would ban it if it was left up to me.”
