“No One Is Without Sin”, Prime Minister John Briceño

But, as we said the purpose of today’s protest was to send a message to the Government of Belize about Andre Perez, the Minister of Blue Economy. Today, Prime Minister John Briceño broke his silence on the issue. He told reporters that he believes everyone needs to be more careful about how they share personal messages and pictures on social media. He also argued that no one is without sin.

“I think that is something everybody needs to take a look at, not only elected officials but also citizens. With the change in social media, the exchanges of these personal messages and persons pictures can be made available at this moment. I think everybody needs to be careful. I don’t think that the UDP has any moral standings to call put anybody because they need to start by looking in the mirror and then after you have cleaned and fixed your house then you have every right to criticize. But, it is something that our society as a whole need to take a look at and realize that while telephones that are tools for good can also be used for bad.”

“So but at what point does actions become unbecoming of Cabinet member or a parliamentarian in the context of these types of images and conversations?”

“I think we need to be careful about how we handle this, all of us including you also the media because many of you are not without sin. So, we need to be careful that while we set these standards and be the morality police.”

“It doesn’t matter, you provide a good, a common good to the country by providing the news, you also have certain ethical standards that are expected of you.”
