PUC approves of increased water rates

From land to water: brace yourselves, because the tough times are about to get worse. Late this evening the Public Utilities Commission announced an early decision on the application by BWS for a rate increase. The government operated utility company had requested an increase of twenty-five percent on water rates and the PUC has now approved an initial ten point six percent hike. While it’s less than BWS’ October fifth proposal, every little bit counts, especially since consumers are feeling the pinch of the economic recession. The application was made based on a business plan submitted by BWS that called for ninety-two point five million dollars in investments. This initial decision in the Full Tariff Review Proceedings is now up for discussion and anyone wishing to submit written comments can do so by sending an email to info@puc.bz or delivering it to their office on Gabourel Lane. If there are no objections by the December second deadline, the increase will come into effect at the beginning of next year.
