U.D.P. to Meet in Emergency Session, Will BRS Candidate be Removed?
The National Party Council of the U.D.P. is to hold an emergency meeting on Saturday morning to address the situation that played out in San Pedro on Thursday, in respect of a protest that was organized by the opposition. As you would recall, the United Democratic Party sought permission to demonstrate outside of the venue where the 2023 Belize Investment Summit was being held. While a permit was not granted, the U.D.P. executive of the Belize Rural South constituency issued a statement essentially disassociating itself from the protest. It led to a lackluster turn out of supporters on Thursday and the central executive is not taking that decision lightly. It is recommending that the BRS Standard Bearer Jazeli Azueta and any of her executives who sanctioned and published the statement be removed, as it violates the Constitution, as well as the NPC resolutions of August 2022 and May 2023. We’ll have more on this development in our newscast on Monday.
