San Pedro police investigating three murders
And in San Pedro, police are currently investigating three murders that appear to be connected to drug trafficking. The latest two bodies were found on the island today and appear to be connected to last Friday’s murder. The men have been identified as Edward Gutierrez and Jason Swan, both of whom reportedly went fishing on Saturday some nineteen miles north of San Pedro Town and one mile away from the body of twenty-eight year old John Paul Saldivar. The two bodies were partially nude and in an advanced state of decomposition. One of the men, Jason Sawn is the brother to Eric Swan who remains hospitalized in the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital after he was shot, presumably during a crossfire with armed forces last Friday evening. Meanwhile, police have still not charged any of the four men they have detained in connection with the murder of Saldivar, who worked as a tour guide at Patojos Tours and Ferry Service in San Pedro Town. Saldivar was shot dead at an abandoned house at Rocky Point, about sixteen miles away from San Pedro Town. Police are also conducting an internal investigation led by Senior Superintendent James Magdaleno and the Police Internal Affairs Division personnel into whether Eric Swan who was reportedly in the get-a-way vessel when police intercepted it, was shot by cops during the crossfire. Police strongly believe the incidents are all drug-related and are also investigating whether thirty thousand US dollars found on a group of Belize City men on the island last Friday night is in any way connected to the series of events.
