U.D.P. Chairman Explains Choice of Words During Protest

On Thursday, U.D.P. Chairman Mike Peyrefitte led a small group of protestors to picket in front of the bakery belonging to Belize Rural South Area Representative Andre Perez in San Pedro.  The demonstration failed to gain traction from other residents and supporters on the island, but during the march, Peyrefitte can be heard using language that is unbecoming of a parliamentarian.  This morning, he attempted to explain his choice of words and why he believes that the ruling party is responsible for the offensiveness that Belizeans are experiencing under the Briceño administration.

“What is vulgar is the prime minister saying that since 2021 ‘til now, as you brought up earlier, there’s been six hundred million dollars invested directly because of that summit.  Where is it?  We don’t see it.  What is vulgar is the fact that you have the price of fuel just keeps going up and up and up.  What is vulgar is a crime situation that is out of control, and so all of that will be ignored because I used a synonym for a chicken?  I mean, had I not said that word everything would have been alright and the country would have been in shape?  No man, they will not use that as some red herring to distract from the mal-administration that they are conducting.  We have problems, we were out there, had they simply allowed us to just peacefully picket, to demonstrate that we live in a democracy, to demonstrate to the investors that voices can be heard other than just the government’s, well then people are going to say things in the heat of the moment that they may not have said otherwise.  But we were there to picket against what this government was doing to this country.”
