B.D.F to Introduce New Mental Health Program
Earlier in the news we reported that World Suicide Prevention Day will be celebrated this weekend. Suicide is a sensitive issue that many families are grappling with when they realize that their loved ones have those tendencies. Over the past couple years; several members of the Belize Defense Force have displayed suicide ideation. Just this week, a soldier committed suicide, reportedly based on a domestic abuse situation. Today, Minister of Defense said that there’s ongoing counseling for members of the military that need it.
Florencio Marin Jr., Minister of Defense
“We’ve had recently some incidences of suicide as well. We won’t be able to eradicate all of that, but we are aggressively pursuing to put a mental health program in the military that would at least stave off some of these incidences, nuh?”
