Police: Drunk Driver Caused Accident that Damaged Philip Goldson Bust
The statue of Belizean patriot, Philip Goldson that stands at the northern entrance to Belize City was knocked down on Saturday morning. That’s after police say a drunk driver caused a traffic accident that resulted in damage to the bust. The incident happened in the wee hours while the J’ouvert was about to kick off around four that morning. A.C.P Hilberto Romero says they have identified the driver who was responsible for the incident.

“On the ninth day of September, 2023, there was an R.T.A by the Flag Monument. Information received was that one Mervin Domingo was driving a van and Elojio Solis was driving a car when they were involved in a traffic accident. Police responded and have since detained Mervin Domingo. The investigation revealed that he’s at fault. He has since been charged with “Drove Motor Vehicle without Due Care and Attention” and “Driving Motor Vehicle Above the Prescribed Limit (of alcohol).” During the RTA, the Philip Goldson monument received damages and so we are looking at that part of the investigation.”
